SCHOOLS throughout the Devizes area will shortly be receiving brochures about an summer activity camp being held on the campus of Devizes School.
Camp Xtra, from July 28 to August 1, is open to all young people in school years five to ten.
Activities will include all forms of sporting and artistic activity and the camp has been sponsored by many local businesses.
The main sponsor is Gaiger Brothers, of Devizes, which has put in £10,000 and its funding has been matched by money from Sportsmatch, a business sponsorship incentive scheme administered by the Institute of Sports Sponsorship on behalf of the Government and Sport England.
Other sponsors include Wadworth and Co, Kennet District Council and SPLASH, the Schools/Police Liaison for Activities in the Summer Holidays.
The booking brochures will be sent out to local schools in the next few days but they are also available from Devizes Leisure Centre.
Chris Ottaway, from Devizes School, said: "This is a very exciting initiative and we all hope it will be the first event of many.
"It gives local children the opportunity to try a lot of different sports and art forms they might not otherwise come into contact with.
"The response from the business community has been splendid and we are very grateful for their support."
