AT last our Member of Parliament, in his column for the Gazette on April 24, has recognised that the Primary Care Trust has problems and that the closure of Chippenham's Marshfield Road Surgery will not help the trust, other GPs or patients.

Perhaps James Gray could now suggest to Barbara Smith, chief executive of the trust, that if she really was interested in saving money she could step out of her comfortable office, without her expensive managers and lawyers and pay a visit to Marshfield Road Surgery where she would be welcomed, like everyone else, with every courtesy by the staff and Dr Williams. Both have problems which could be solved with a little goodwill.

It is sad that Dr Williams' fellow GP's do not seem to have offered any support to a colleague or given any thought to the anxiety and stress that patients have had to endure.

Do they still consider themselves to be members of a caring profession?
