TWO local charities are getting together to hold a vodka tasting evening to raise money for children affected by the Chernobyl disaster.
The two Chernobyl charities in west Wiltshire, the Chernobyl Children In Need Group, which sends humanitarian aid to a village in Belarus, and Chernobyl Childrens Lifeline which brings children to this country for respite-care visits, have got together to organise a fundraiser.
It is over 17 years since the Chernobyl nuclear accident, which covered Belarus with high levels of longlasting radiation. 80 per cent of the children in the area suffer from medical problems such as leukaemia and constant headaches.
Chernobyl Children in Need has just sent another lorry of aid to the village of Ozarichi, where they are rebuilding the schools and hospitals, and is already collecting goods for another load.
The vodka tasting evening is at the Leigh Park Hotel, Bradford on Avon, on June 13, when people can sample up to 40 different types of Belarussian vodka.
