I WRITE regarding that incredible letter in the May 2 edition regarding the change of use of the Bythesea Hotel to accommodation for residents of Amber seeking college and work opportunities in the Trowbridge area.
Perhaps with his or her wealth the writer of that letter should consider purchasing a cabin on one of those floating hotels or cruise liners so they are insulated from life and its reality. I will be 70 this month and am not a churchgoer but was shocked by this un-Christian approach to life the letter writer suggests.
I was myself involved in the case of an ex-resident of Amber who had won a place at a local college for further training in hospitality management and had been given a list of approved accommodation in Trowbridge.
I, who have lived in many countries of the world, delivered the luggage and saw accommodation so bad that I felt physically sick and took the person back to our house; they have lived as family with us for over a year and are now enjoying a further year in a large hotel complex.
The person is a credit to themselves and to Amber for allowing belief in themselves, and gave me and my wife great joy in expanding our family. We were lucky, our eyes were opened and we have enjoyed a magical experience.
There are many people in Trowbridge who help as fosterers, guardians and carers who were equally shocked by this letter. Amber is, for many, the only chance they have had and we the lucky ones should help not oppose.
