SWINDON CANCER APPEAL: The Swindon Cancer Appeal has been running for just six weeks and already more than £90,000 has been raised.
Thanks to your fundraising efforts and generous donations, cheques continue to flow into the appeal office in Milton Road.
Linda Brown is just one of a growing number of Swindonians who have taken the appeal to heart.
Linda, 41, and her artistic family saw an opportunity to spread a little culture around Shaw, while raising cash for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Design engineer Linda said: "Art has always been important in my family and we thought it would be a good way to raise some money.
"We plan to have an art and craft exhibition on our front lawn. If it rains we'll move into the garage."
The exhibition, which will be held on June 14 and 15, will features pastels from Linda's mum Carolyn Brown, 61, watercolours by her 71-year-old aunt Marian Smith, and photographs by family friend Val Stolton, 58.
The exhibition will be open from 11am until 5pm each day.
Linda's dad, carpenter Mick Brown, 63, will also include a selection of his woodcarvings.
There will be tea and cookies on sale for people who want stay and browse.
All the family's work will be on sale, priced from £1 to £100, and 15 per cent of the proceeds will go to the appeal.
In addition, all proceeds from the refreshments will go to the appeal.
Linda, of Old Shaw Lane, said her family had a personal reason for wanting to help cancer charities.
"In 2000 we lost two close family members to cancer. We had already decided to have a fundraising event and your charity project for Macmillan Cancer Relief seemed like a good one to support," she said.
"The idea came from my mum who, along with the other ladies, occasionally exhibit in venues local to their homes in Oxford.
"They have shown their art in doctor's surgeries and hospitals and during art weeks."
