A NURSERY in Swindon has welcomed a new Government study on the benefits of learning through play for toddlers.
The report, entitled Effective Provision of Pre-School Education, has also concluded that any kind of pre-schooling is better for children than none at all.
Jigsaw Day Nursery in Windmill Hill Business Park opened in 1992.
Deputy chairman Sir Christopher Ball said: "Learning through play has always been our philosophy and it is backed up by research at the highest level.
"The EPPE report is further proof that children under five should have a good time in a structured play environment and learning as they do so."
The report advises parents to visit nurseries before sending their children there.
It also issues a checklist of features parents should look out for when looking around.
These include making sure the nursery has clear educational goals, that staff have recognised early years qualifications and that there is plenty of communication between the nursery and the home.
