YOUNG dancers entertained shoppers in Chippenham town centre at the weekend.
Pupils from Charter and Ivy Lane primary schools gave displays of country dancing while youngsters from St Peter's primary performed three maypole dances in the High Street on Saturday.
Emma King from Chippenham town council said: "It was a celebration of the arrival of spring. There was a huge crowd and everyone was clapping and seemed to enjoy themselves and the children definitely had a good time."
The youngsters from St Peter's performed the Barber's Pole, Spider's Web and single Plait dances, to the great enjoyment of the watching crowd.
Teacher Jill Edolls said: "The children very much enjoy maypole dancing and the whole school took part or watched maypole dancing on May1."
The children's dances were followed by a performance from Hips and Haws, a local group who gave a clog dancing display.
The event was a foretaste of the upcoming folk festival in the town to be held over the next bank holiday weekend.
