SURREAL landscapes of Swindon are among the pictures in a new exhibition by local photographer Tony Leggett.

The exhibition, called Panoramas, features fascinating landscapes and interiors produced by exploiting the power of digital technology.

Tony, 61, who lives in Nine Elms, is a former lorry driver and also edits the National Skoda Owner's Club magazine.

In 1995, he decided to crown his decades-long interest in photography by making the leap from film to digital and turning professional. His company, called TDP Media, is focused on digital photography and he's undertaken a small number of commissions for the council.

Around 18 of his images are currently on display in the Harlequin Bar Gallery in the Wyvern Theatre and feature a range of subjects, from Cotswold villages to cliffs, and use the technique of stitching together a number of images to create one much larger photograph.

Tony said: "My interest in photography stems from helping my friend's father develop wedding photos when I was young and now I am always looking out for opportunities for a great photo."

His wife, Sonia, 63, does a lot of painting, but there are no conflicts of interest. Tony added: "We are always bouncing ideas off each other, and she's always commenting about where to take a picture."

One image, Problems In Bulk, brings out some of the humour in Tony's photography. Talking to a friend in a local haulage firm, he managed to borrow two lorries and two identical trailers for the picture. He spent 30 hours in the post-production of the photograph. The end result features the two vehicles joined at the trailer, a sort of Siamese-twin heavy goods vehicle.

Other pictures include a carefully constructed view of the Spectrum building in West Swindon, which is the former Renault site. It was photographed and then flipped to create a completely symmetrical picture.

Another features the inside of the Brunel Centre flipped four times, resulting in two shopping halls and four David Murray John Towers in the picture.

The exhibition runs until May 24, from 11am to 2pm, Monday to Friday. Admission is free. For more information call the Wyvern Theatre on Swindon 524481 or visit Tony's website at www.tdpmedia.co.uk.
