SWINDON'S Jon Lewis helped guide Gloucestershire closer to victory in their Frizzell County Championship Division Two clash with Glamorgan.
Lewis, who took 5-61 on the opening day, hit an unbeaten 37 with the bat as Gloucestershire rattled up 400-8 declared in reply to Glamorgan's paltry 139 all out.
And Lewis struck again, this time with the ball, taking two wickets as Glamorgan only managed 70-3 at close of play some 191 runs short of Gloucestershire's total.
Elsewhere in Division Two, Yorkshire face a daunting run chase today if they are to register their second win in three outings.
Having been set 407 for victory by Derbyshire at Headingley, Michael Vaughan and Matthew Wood reduced that target by 12.
The home side ended the day as they had begun it, at the crease, as they resumed their first innings on 203-4. They lost their last six wickets for just 27 runs as Dominic Cork and Kevin Dean both finished with 4-39 to put them 219 run ahead.
Defending county champions Surrey finally found their form this season to beat current leaders Nottinghamshire inside three days at Trent Bridge.
Resuming on 95-6 the hosts were skittled for 176 despite a defiant half-century stand from overnight pair Paul Franks and Steve Elworthy and the departure of the former for 25 to Azhar Mahmood signalled the beginning of the end.
Elworthy hung on bravely to reach his half-century and he was last man out for 52, Martin Bicknell's fifth victim.
Middlesex have a tough task on their hands to avoid their second defeat of the season when they resume at Lord's 172 behind Lancashire's imposing first innings of 565 for seven declared.
