A TEAM of young footballers from Liden are to take part in a national knock-out competition after winning a tournament held by Highworth Lions Club.
The club held the contest in order to pick a team to play against other Lions' clubs around the country.
Competing were four under-15 teams calling themselves Liden Community, Stratton, Cricklade and Swindon Badgers.
The tournament was organised in a league system and Liden emerged convincing victors at Highworth Recreation ground on Sunday after winning all of their three games.
Although Swindon Badgers picked up the wooden spoon after three defeats, tournament organisers paid tribute to them.
Peter Hennell, from Highworth Lions, said: "We were very grateful to the Badgers for turning up because our fourth team let us down at the last minute so they saved the day.
"All the teams enjoyed themselves and played in a really good spirit."
There was also a barbecue, boot sale and bouncy castle at the event, which raised about £200 for Lions Club funds.
