POTTERNE Cricket Club is making full use of its new artificial pitch, recently installed with the aid of a National Lottery Awards for All grant.
The club, whose first XI plays in Wiltshire League division one and second XI in division seven, are now looking forward to a successful season.
Committee member Graham Gaiger said: "This grant award has been wonderful for the club. Not only do we now have our own proper practise facilities, but we have the ability to forge closer links with the local primary school and encourage a new generation of cricketers to join our club.
"At the moment we are very lucky on and off the pitch. We have three or four very promising youngsters in our team and an excellent groundsman, Mervyn Underwood, who devotes a huge amount of time to ensuring our ground looks as good as it ever has.
"This, allied to generous sponsorship from H and R Property Management, puts us in a very fortunate position in which to start the season."
Potterne Cricket Club, whose headquarters is at the George and Dragon pub in the village, is always on the lookout for new players. Anyone interested should contact Sam Gaiger on (07736) 967575.
