CAR boot stallholders have been warned to watch their wares after one trusting vendor had two valuable rings stolen.
The stallholder was unloading their car at the boot sale held on the May Day bank holiday when a customer inquired if they had any jewellery.
In the bustle of unloading their car, said Sgt Martyn Sweett, the unsuspecting seller handed over two gold rings studded with small diamonds and valued at about £150 for inspection.
The person with the rings disappeared into the crowd that invariably gathers around cars as they are being unloaded, never to be seen again.
The theft took place at about 7.30am in the car park behind Waitrose.
Sgt Sweett warned boot sale or other charity event stallholders to keep their eyes on valuable goods.
