TODDLERS have raised more than £6,000 by singing their favourite nursery rhymes and songs.
Children from the Princess Christian Nurseries in Peatmoor contributed £430 to that total when they took part in the Chatterbox Challenge, a national initiative supported by Tesco Baby and Toddler Club, to raise money for I CAN a charity helping children with communication difficulties.
A group of 12 from the Swindon nursery took part in a sponsored sing in Tesco in Ocotal Way in January.
The rest of the money came from the other 22 Princess Christian Nurseries from around the country.
The charity provides specialist therapy, education for children, information for parents and training for teachers.
Jacqueline Moss, managing director of Princess Christian Nurseries, explained why the company chose to support I CAN.
She said: "Speech and language development in children is very important and can be a neglected area so we wanted to promote this charity's work.
"The other side was that it is not just about children having language difficulties. There are a lot of things we can do to ensure a child's speech develops and we thought the singing was an ideal way to do this and raise money in a nice way as well."
