CHILDREN in the village of Edington have managed to win the support of the rest of the village community to get them a skateboard park.
A group of keen skateboarders from the village gave a presentation to the parish council in the new year and persuaded the council to take the project on.
The parish council has raised most of the money from grants and council funds, but the children still have fundraising to do to make up the £20,000 building bill.
John Bennett did some financial research for the group of skaters. He said: "It did not deter them when we found out what it would cost, and they just have so much enthusiasm for the project that I know it will be a success.
"They have planned discos and car boot sales and loads of events to raise the rest of the money." As part of the fundraising, 18 children walked from Edington to Warminster on Sunday and raised £1,200.
Parish councillor David Perkins is co-ordinating the plans for the skatepark on behalf of the council.
He said: "The funding is coming from a range of sources but the main initiative has come from the kids themselves."
