CAMPAIGNERS fighting to keep the Wiltshire and Swindon Record Office in Trowbridge have vowed to be ready if plans to move the centre to Chippenham fail.
The project to re-site the office at Cocklebury Road is in the hands of a partnership between Wiltshire County Council and Swindon Borough Council, and rests on the results of a £5m bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Campaigners in Trowbridge say the bid is likely to fail, especially with the news Swindon Borough Council is bidding for up to £5m for another project at Lydiard Park and the lottery fund is unlikely to support both.
Trowbridge Town Council agreed on Tuesday to send an official delegation to Swindon to try to get the borough council on side.
Trowbridge town and county councillor Jeff Osborn said: "If we can get Swindon to see sense we stand a greater chance. If the lottery bid fails, then the whole thing fails."
