Wilts Angling Open match was fished at Todber Manor where weights were fairly even.
Howard Carpenter of Trowbridge carried off top prize with a mixed catch of carp and skimmers weighing 34lb 10oz taken alternating with pole fished red maggots and sweetcorn.
Gillingham's Richard Chave used similar tactics to take second prize with a mixed catch of carp, skimmers and roach weighing 33lb 11oz. Bob Gullitt of Gillingham clinched third prize with a mixed catch of carp and skimmers weighing 31lb 0oz taken on pole fished casters and sweetcorn. Other placings: 4. Anthony Thick, Gillingham 29lb 1oz; 5. Fred Eagles, Trowbridge 27lb 14oz; 6. Mick Withey, Westbury 27lb 7oz.
Rood Ashton hosted the Airsprung Bank Holiday match where carp made up all leading weights.
Top honours went to Bradford's Ian Stainer with an all-carp catch weighing 41lb 2oz taken on both pole and feeder fished pellets and sweetcorn.
Trowbridge's Barry Oakford took second prize with another carp catch weighing 32lb 13oz taken on pole fished sweetcorn on a 14 hook. Lee Ovens of Trowbridge was a close-up third with another carp catch weighing 28lb 2oz taken on pole and feeder fished sweetcorn and pellets. Other placings: 4. Steve Southern, Trowbridge 19lb 11oz; 5. Nigel Hiscocks, Trowbridge 15lb 15oz; 6. Wayne Henley, Bradford 15lb 4oz.
The Airsprung match on Sunday was fished at Burbrook where weights were lower than expected. Honours on the day went to Bradford's Ian Stainer with a mixed catch of chub and skimmers weighing 7lb oz taken alternating with pole fished casters and sweetcorn. Trowbridge's Kelvin Oliver took second prize with a mixed bag of crucians and roach weighing 6lb 14oz also taken alternating with pole fished casters and sweetcorn.
Barry Oakford from Trowbridge carried off third prize with an all-roach catch weighing 4lb 10oz taken on pole-fished red maggots on an 18 hook. Other placings: 4. Mick Dean, Steeple Ashton 3lb 12oz; 5. Bill Turner, Trowbridge 3lb 3oz; 6. Nigel Hiscocks, Trowbridge 2lb 8oz.
The Wilts Angling Open match fished on Sunday at Witherington Farm produced some excellent fishing. Frome matchman Gary Dallimore took top spot with an all carp catch weighing 77lb 8oz taken on pole fished pellets on a 14 hook. Mick Gunning from Trowbridge took second prize with another carp catch weighing 62lb 0oz taken on pole fished cat meat on a 12 hook. He was followed by Holt's Pete Neate with yet another carp catch weighing 61lb 4oz taken alternating with pole fished expander pellets and sweetcorn. Other placings: 4. Mick Higgins, Westbury 53lb 4oz; 5. John Sudbury, Melksham 47lb 4oz; 6. Fred Eagles ,Trowbridge 43lb 12oz.
The rougher weather with blustery winds last week made fishing difficult in many areas of the Bristol water trout fisheries but sport is still good with plenty of fish feeding from most places mainly near the margins.
At Chew nymph fishing predominates with Diawl Bachs, Buzzers, PTN and Damsels proving the most successful.
