YOUNGSTER Alex Sutton competed in a sports competition for the first time - and bagged a gold medal.
Alex, 10, who was born with cerebral palsy and lives at Kite Hill, Wanborough, took part in the mini-games at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, organised by Disabled Sport England.
The Wanborough Primary School pupil clinched gold in the 60-metre sprint and silver in the table tennis final, and was presented with the special award for most outstanding boy of the games, which took into account his sportsmanship and effort.
He said: "I'm very proud of myself, and excited. It was the first time I've entered something like that. My favourite lesson at school is PE, and I would like to keep doing sport."
His mum Nicky, 36, a personnel assistant, said: "We were very emotional and proud. Alex was really chuffed, he turned up and had a go and it really surprised him how well he did. It has definitely inspired him."
Alex, whose father John, 37, is a builder, has a seven-year-old sister called Victoria.
His sporting talents also include a love of horse riding.
