NEW Malmesbury Mayor Charles Vernon has challenged youth of the town to stand up and be counted.
Speaking after he was installed as Malmesbury's 118th Mayor last week, he said he wanted to help youngsters. "I would like the youngsters to step three paces forward and say this is what we would like. I want youngsters to be involved and to create ideas that I can help move forward," he said.
Also at the ceremony, held in the town hall, Patrick Goldstone was installed as deputy mayor.
Coun Vernon also expressed concern that the council was returned uncontested at the elections.
He said "We are looking for people who wish to make a positive contribution to our community by being co-opted to join the council."
Anyone interested should write to the town clerk.
