Serious damage was caused to St John's Bridge in Malmesbury at 10.30am on Sunday when a woman lost control of her car and the back end hit the bridge.
The woman was treated for shock. Cost of the damage is still being assessed. A spokesman for Wiltshire County Council said: "There are no concerns about the stability of the bridge structure, but the damaged section of the bridge has been cordoned off to stop anyone falling through the gap."
