SARUM Orienteers enjoyed a successful trip to Sheffield at the weekend for the two-day British Championships.
The individual races were staged at Wharncliffe Wood on Saturday, with the relays at Greno Woods on Sunday.
The Individual courses covered areas of steep-sided woods, boulder fields and fast open moorland combining the need for fast running and accurate map reading. Despite frequent downpours and cold winds, Sarum team members collected prizes in their individual events.
Ron Ley was crowned British champion at M80L, Lucy Butt finished second at W10A, Emily Benham was also second at W14A while Liam Howlett took first on the M14 short course.
Sunday's event was held in a sunny arena where Sarum managed to enter eight relay teams ranging from nine to 80-year-olds.
However the three girls running in the W14A relay ran outstandingly to gain the British Champions title and trophy. Alice Butt led out on the first leg bringing the team into close contention with the top teams.
Julia Blomquist then ran a fast middle leg to take them into the lead ahead of their rivals, before a fine Emily Benham performance enabled her to hold onto first place.
