JUNE: AN exhibition chronicling three centuries of royal occasions in Wiltshire is visiting Devizes Library in June.
The touring exhibition, which was launched in October, gives an insight into how royal jubilees and coronations have been celebrated from Victorian times to the present day.
A total of 64 royal images from Wiltshire County Council's historic photograph and print collection tell the story of how these important national events were celebrated locally between 1887 and 2001. The exhibition also features images of royal visits to Wiltshire.
The exhibition will be at Devizes Library from June 2 until June 30.
Images in the exhibition from the Devizes area include a picture of teams from a Market Lavington women's football match, organised as part of the village's celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953.
The two teams of women were 'married' versus 'single'. The referee's name was Stan Cooper.
Another photograph shows the Mayor of Devizes and other town dignitaries watching the parade to mark the coronation of King George VI pass the market cross in 1937.
Paul Connell, museums officer at Wiltshire County Council, said: "We decided to do the exhibition because people throughout Wiltshire celebrated the Queen's golden jubilee in 2002.
"We thought it would be interesting for them to see how royal events were celebrated in the past."
