DEVIZES' long-awaited recycling centre could finally be in sight if Wiltshire County Council's ruling cabinet gives the green light today to the purchase of land on Hopton Industrial Estate.
The first scheme for a recycling centre at Hopton was dropped after electronics firm Tamura Hinchley objected.
Then an alternative proposal for a site in Horton Road was thrown out after a long battle by objectors.
The third site chosen by Hills Waste, which operates the county council waste contract, was also at Hopton but proved too costly.
But a third piece of land at Hopton has now come on to the open market.
It is expected the county council will agree to buy the land.
The council is not divulging the exact location of the new site because it claims the information is commercially sensitive.
The recycling centre will be built by Hills. It will offer facilities to recycle paper, cardboard, glass, aluminium cans, metals, textiles, timber, oil, batteries and non-trade building waste. Householders at present have to drive to Melksham or Trowbridge.
