SWINDON'S renowned Kentwood Choir is returning to Marlborough to give another fundraising concert in aid of a village school.

Last summer the choir, led by its founder Sheila Harrod, won a standing ovation for its thrilling performance in St John's Church that raised £1,500 for the Friends of Kennet Valley School.

The money helped the friends realise their £15,000 dream of buying computers and printers to fully equip an information technology suite, which was being built at Kennet Valley's upper school site in East Kennett.

The suite was officially opened last October and is now enjoyed by pupils from both the upper school and the infants school, based in the neighbouring village of Lockeridge.

The choir, which has a strong and loyal following, has agreed to return to Malborough on July 4 when it will present Kool Khords With Kentwood, a musical feast of popular hits and classical standards, to once again help Kennet Valley School.

Funds raised will go toward the friends' aim of raising £5,000 to refurbish the school library.

A spokesman for the friends said: "We are delighted the Kentwood Choir is returning, not least because we are all looking forward to a wonderful evening's entertainment."

The concert will start at 8pm and a bar and refreshements will be available.

Tickets are £10, concessions £8, available from Leighton's opticians in Marlborough High Street or by either ringing (01672) 861404, or (01672) 516103, or e-mail jf-richards@cadel.fsnet.co.uk
