The question of skate boarding facilities for the youth of Devizes lumbers on unresolved.
Wouldn't it be great if someone in authority took this issue by the horns and committed to a decision to get this much needed facility up and running as soon as possible?
I understand that leisure plans at Kennet District Council preclude the provision of such facilities and that were an exception to be made for Devizes then this could open the floodgates for similar claims throughout the district.
I know this is largely a town council issue but it affects youth throughout the whole of Devizes.
Roundway parish sadly doesn't have any resources to do anything about it. However, one young Roundway mum recently came up with an idea that hopefully someone will find worth exploring further.
This mother has a 14-year-old son who is currently desperate to get out on his skateboard.
His parents obviously want him to do this in a safe environment.
The idea the lady put to me was, mindful of the huge success of the Coral Cove soft play area at Hopton, couldn't a similar facility be built as a commercial venture at Hopton covering skateboarding?
She said she would certainly be willing to pay for her son to use such a facility which would hopefully achieve the needs of all involved.
Could this be the answer?
