I AGREE with Sir Leslie Loader (letters, May 15) that it is unfair to the English that Welsh and Scottish MPs can vote on English matters, while such matters for Wales and Scotland are dealt with by devolved assemblies.
But the far greater injustice suffered by the English is that they are still denied democratic representation by being saddled with the archaic first-past-the-post system of voting, while Welsh and Scottish voters are now represented in proportion to the votes actually cast by them.
Tory voters are denied representation in northern areas, Labour voters are denied representation in the south and west, and small parties, with substantial but wider spread support, are denied justice throughout the land.
While huge Parliamentary majorities can be won without a correspondingly huge nationwide vote electoral fairness and democracy are terms that cannot be applied to England. It should be corrected immediately.
