I read with anger the article regarding the historic Roman site in Swindon and the council's refusal to do anything about it because it's "not of public interest."
Wasn't it enough that they allow the Mechanics Institute to fall into disrepair (presumably when it does collapse, another nightclub will be built). And now they allow this site to remain beneath the ground.
Such an attitude is short sighted at best.
It will open up tourism (national and international) as well as jobs and possibly help to shake off the tag that Swindon has nothing of interest. Divine revelation Steam might actually see an increase in visitors too!
If the council still thinks that the site will be of no public interest then perhaps someone should visit Rockbourne or Fishbourne and see how 'uninteresting' these popular sites are.
