Police want to talk to these two boys, caught on camera near Old Town's Locarno, as they watched flames engulf the building. They are somebody's sons. Help detectives track them down.

POLICE want to speak to four youths following Sunday's suspected arson attack on Old Town's historic Locarno building.

They are urging the youths, who are aged in their late teens or early 20s, to come forward as they could prove to be vital witnesses in unravelling the cause of the blaze.

Detective Sergeant Mark Smith, of Swindon CID, said the youths were seen in the vicinity of the Locarno as fire broke out at around 3pm.

"We have made extensive house-to-house inquiries and a member of the public showed us some images they had taken on digital camera," said DS Smith.

"These youths were shown in the background, watching the fire in progress, and we would like to talk to them as part of our inquiries."

DS Smith confirmed that police are following a number of leads given to them by members of the public.

Fire investigators have been unable to ascertain the cause of the blaze as the building was so badly damaged.

Police are appealing for anyone with video footage of the fire to come forward. Firefighters took more than 24 hours to extinguish the fire, which destroyed the roof and interior of the former Locarno and Town Hall.

Swindon Council has cordoned off the area around the buildings to make it safe for the public and is advising owner Gael Mackenzie, who was away in Hamburg when the fire started, to take further measures to secure the site.

Anyone who can help police with their inquiries is asked to call 01793 528111. Or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
