THE Storenet radio security system operated by a number of stores in Devizes has been praised by police after two shoplifters were arrested and charged with a string of offences.

The two men from Calne, who are known to staff of stores in Devizes, were seen in Woolworth's in the Brittox on Thursday and their details were passed on to the other stores via the Storenet system, which supplies dedicated radio sets to participating shops.

The police heard the alert on their radio and the two men were picked up as they left Safeway supermarket in Estcourt Street carrying a DVD player.

The two men have been charged with a number of thefts from stores, as well as the theft of fuel from a filling station in Bromham on their way to Devizes.

Inspector Pete Bowerbank of Devizes police said: "This demonstrates the value of the system and we can only hope other stores will join up."
