A MOTHER and daughter have successfully completed a sponsored swim to raise money for Childline.
Ruth and Judy Britton of Ashton Keynes took part in the Sharron Davies Mile Swim Challenge which this year benefits the 24-hour helpline for children in trouble or danger. They hope to have raised £250.
Now in its 14th year, the Swim for Life challenge encourages people of all swimming abilities to swim a mile in one attempt or accumulate the distance over the course of two weeks.
Both Ruth and Judy completed the challenge in one go at the Cotswold Leisure Centre in Cirencester.
Ruth, 50, an artist at the Evening Advertiser, once a keen tennis and squash player, can now only exercise in the pool, after a series of knee injuries ten years ago.
She said: "I find swimming quite tedious so I just wanted to spice it up by doing something for a worthwhile cause. Doing it for charity just gave me an added incentive."
Judy, 13, who attends Deer Park School in Cirencester, said: "I am all right at swimming so I enjoyed it."
Olympic medallist Sharron Davis said: "It is wonderful that people like Ruth have taken part in the swim. Childline needs this kind of support."
