FEW people will be re-assured by recent government statements that the number of asylum seekers arriving in the UK is under control.

The recently published census details show Britain's population expanding at a rate of 200,000 per annum, resulting primarily from record levels of immigration.

In 2002 alone, more than a quarter of a million immigrants settled in the UK. Without a radical change of policy to stem the flow, the population of the UK will grow by a further two million by the end of the decade. This Government is far too timid in its approach to deal decisively with this problem.

The Freedom Association has been leading a campaign for free speech on population growth and its consequences. We want a public debate on the consequences of further immigration, to include issues such as the additional housing, roads, airports and public services required to accommodate Britain's expanding population.

For democracy to flourish the voters must be presented with choice. At present none of the mainstream political parties is willing to offer an alternative to more immigration and a rising population.

We believe it is essential that MPs are held to account and address the legitimate concerns of the electorate. Philip J Duly
