ENGLAND Grand Slam winner and former British Lions prop Jeff Probyn is a guest speaker at Chippenham RFC's 50th annual club dinner this Friday.
Special guest on the night is the club captain at the time of the inaugral dinner, Frank Osborne.
Osborne was 26 at the time of the first evening and the event was held at The Angel Hotel on Friday, March 27, 1953.
Invited guests at that time included Alderman H A Cruse, the then Mayor of Chippenham.
Tom Bullock, then President of Dorset & Wilts RFU and Sir William Becher MC, captain of Wiltshire County Cricket Club, were also in attendance.
Osborne said: "In the 1950s, the club drew most of its players from the Armed Services as we have quite a few military bases in the area and for some matches, we had difficulty in selecting a full 15.
"There was no youth section like there is now and the game has become faster, players are a lot fitter and we played to the laws of the game.''
Tickets for Friday's event cost £30.
