MARK Atkinson stole the show for Goatacre at the weekend.

With the first team suffering washouts in both league and National Village Knockout matches, that left attention centred on the second string.

And Atkinson was certainly the centre of attention as he rattled up an impressive 188 in the second team's crushing defeat of Winget in the 2nd XI section of the Gloucestershire/Wiltshire League.

Atkinson's big century steered Goatacre to a daunting total of 310 from their 45 overs.

In reply, Winget were dismissed for 120, with Curtis taking three wickets and Baker two.

Goatacre's first team suffered a frustrating weekend.

Washed out on Saturday within sight of their first league victory of the season, they then had their National Village Championship third-round encounter with Shrewton called off without a ball being bowled.

That has now been rearranged for this Sunday (2.30pm start)

On Saturday, a heavy shower just before the start meant the match was reduced to 48 overs a side.

Batting was difficult throughout, and Winget soon came unstuck against the bowling of Scott Curwood and Kevin Iles.

Despite Lambert hitting an edgy 36, Iles finished with 3-16 from 12 overs, Robert Turner took 4-8 in a fine spell, including the last two wickets in successive deliveries, and Curwood grabbed two wickets as the Gloucester side fell for 91.

Goatacre struggled initially in reply, and slipped to 15 -4 after 10 overs.

but a partnership of 45 between opener Curwood and Iles (25) put the visitors back in the game.

But at 69-5 and just 23 runs needed for victory, the heavens opened and the match abandoned.
