SWINDON CANCER APPEAL: SIXTY people have so far signed up for the Macmillan Mountain Bike Ride next weekend.
But organiser Jill Greenaway is still calling for more people to get into the saddle.
All money raised will go towards our Swindon Cancer Appeal, which is steaming towards the £100,000 mark.
Jill, who runs the Swindon branch of Macmillan Cancer Relief, said: "I'm really pleased with the number of people who have come forward.
"But I would still like more.
"This is one of the biggest Macmillan fundraising events of the year in Swindon.
"It's a great day out for the family, and gives people the chance to see the beautiful countryside around Swindon and raise money at the same time.
"I'm not sure how much we're expecting in sponsorship yet, but many people have said they are doing well.
"Some people have been sending in donations with their application forms, which is nice."
The ride start at 10am at the Croft Sports Centre in Marlborough Lane on Sunday, June 8.
The route follows some of the country's oldest roads, including the Ridgeway and the ancient peak at Barbury Castle.
Cyclists can choose from a 10, 15 or 25 mile route, which are clearly marked out.
The entry fee is £4 for adults and £2 for children under 16.
The closing date for entries is June 5.
The Macmillan Trophy will be presented to the largest group of riders which crosses the finish line.
The cyclist raising the largest amount of money will win a brand new mountain bike donated by Mitchell's Cycles of Swindon.
Graziella Campisano, appeal manager for Macmillan's Swindon office, said: "It's great that all these people have signed up, but we still need more.
"The more people taking part, the more money we will raise towards our target."
The target is to raise £600,000 in three years. The money will pay for two Macmillan nurses for Swindon, and a cancer care specialist at the Great Western Hospital.
