Ben Storey (Broadway) discovered the reality of top-class junior county golf by finishing on the losing side as Gloucestershire Juniors lost their opening Channel League junior league match 8.5-6.5 to Somerset at Long Ashton
But he and the captain Giuseppe Licata from Filton put up a good show in the opening foursomes before losing on the final green to Somerset captain Adam Meads and Simon Lord.
Then he lost to Lord 3 and 2 in the afternoon singles.
Gloucestershire led in the morning when Shane Winstone and David Lake (Knowle), Chris Wood (Long Ashton) and Spencer Vickery (Kendleshire) and Andrew Webb (Shirehampton Park) and Nick Davies (Filton) gained foursomes wins.
But then Gloucestershire lost the first four singles matches until Wood, Andrew Hale (Chipping Sodbury) and Lake won to level the scores. But Somerset eventually took the singles 6.5-3.5.
