Gloucestershire moved into the quarter-finals of the C&G Trophy with a five-wicket win over Kent at Canterbury.

Their total of 195 achieved with 4.2 overs to spare included a superb innings of 71 from Craig Spearman and an unbeaten 45 from Jonty Rhodes.

The start of their innings, however, was similar to that of Kent unsteady.

The visitors lost Phil Weston (7), who had taken 16 balls to get off the mark, in the seventh over when he was caught behind chasing a ball outside off stump from Martin Saggers.

Tim Hancock was the next to go, losing his leg stump to Mark Ealham as he played down the wrong line and Gloucestershire were 56 for two.

But Spearman then added 47 for the next wicket with Rhodes, showing excellent timing in his strokes which brought him seven boundaries from the 85 balls faced.

Earlier, Kent had been dismissed for 194 in the 48th over with left-arm paceman Mike Smith claiming four for 35, which earned him the man of the match award.

In the quarter-finals, Gloucestershire are away to Warwickshire, Leicestershire face Worcestershire, Lancashire are at home to Middlesex and Derbyshire take on Surrey.
