SOUTH Wilts Cricket Club en-joyed a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Portsmouth on Saturday to secure their first league victory of the season.

After winning the toss and putting their hosts into bat, a strong South Wilts side skittled their opponents out for 147.

Adie Holewell took 3-18 from his ten overs, while Jimmy Tom-linson, Alex Senneck, Paul Draper and Tom Caines all grabbed a wicket apiece. However, South Wilts initially made hard work of their reply and found themselves 13-2 off ten overs with openers Draper and Russell Rowe both removed.

Jason Laney and skipper Rob Wade dug in and eventually got to grips with the Portsmouth bowling to secure the win with eight overs spare.

Man of the match Laney was 75 not out, while Wade closed two runs short of an unbeaten 50 to register a splendid third wicket partnership of 137.

On Saturday, the Salisbury-based outfit entertain last season's champions Havant who are again setting the pace at the top of the ECB Southern Electric Premier League Division One table following three wins from three matches.

Saturday's game, at Lower Bemerton, starts at 1pm.
