VOLUNTEERS have been springing into action armed with wheelbarrows and bin bags in an attempt to clean up a nature area in Corsham.

Wildlife enthusiasts gave up their time to spring clean Beechfield Nature Area in Middlewick Lane.

The site, which was taken over by the town council in Spring last year, is being managed to encourage wildlife.

The clean up involved volunteers from the Beechfield Trustees, the Pickwick Association and Middlewick Lane Allotment holders.

Volunteers from the town also turned up to help on the day.

A skip was provided free of charge by North Wiltshire District Council.

Town council chairman Jock Fraser said: "Since taking over the site from the developer we have worked with local groups to draw up a management plan to protect and improve the amenity and habitat.

"We are keen that local people are involved in caring for their local environment."

Chippenham Without Council has recently carried out a similar clean up operation in Drakes Avenue in Cepen Park South.

It was organised by Chippenham Without councillor Paul Gill along with the help of local residents.
