CHIPPENHAM Town striker Adie Mings will return from his end-of-season holiday this weekend to find himself installed as the club's new assistant manager.

Mings expressed an interest in the vacant post before jetting off to the Canaries and, after much deliberation, Bluebirds boss Tommy Saunders has decided to name the 34-year-old as his right-hand man, filling the void left by Corsham-bound Nobby Bush.

While Mings may lack coaching experience, his enthusiasm and the respect he demands from his peers made him the obvious choice ahead of more seasoned campaigners such as former Weston assistant Chris Smith and ex-Swindon Town striker Steve White.

Saunders said: "Adie has lots of experience as a player at this level.

"He knows the local scene very well and is well respected by players and managers at other clubs and the lads here love him.

"This job has probably come sooner than Adie might have expected, but it's a fantastic opportunity for him."

Saunders is set to take a more active role in training than he has done during his previous five seasons at the club. Mings will also offer input alongside other senior members of Town's playing staff and invited guests.

"Training will be different now," said Saunders.

"It used to be down to Nobby, but I'll take more sessions, Adie will have a go and Colin Towler and Gareth Davies will also help out.

"We also have the option of bringing in specialist coaches when we need to."
