MUSIC workshops, launched in Coleman's Farm, in Calne, last month to help fight boredom among young people, proved such a hit more sessions have been arranged.

Westlea Housing Association set up the scheme, which local community liaison officer and musician Richard Monks organised.

Mr Monks, a member of local Soul band 'Respect,' which has toured across the UK, said the purpose of the workshops is to encourage young people away from drug abuse, boredom and low self-esteem using music as an alternative therapy.

He said: "Those who came to the workshops at Easter thoroughly enjoyed it.

"Most of them had never played before and were excited to try something that was new and different.

"One girl had always wanted to sing, but had never had the guts to do it or the opportunity to try.

"People will continue to benefit in all sorts of ways. They can experience self-confidence, learn new skills, develop a more positive attitude, find friendship and support, develop their creativity and improve their wellbeing."

There will be a session in Potley and Pockeridge Community Centre, near Corsham, today from 10am to 3pm.

The next session takes place tomorrow in the Angell Close Community Centre in Colemans Farm, in Calne, from 10am to 3pm.
