A much-loved geriatric horse from Calne, called Mike, has galloped off with a year's supply of herbal treats after winning a golden oldie competition for horses.
It was run by Hilton Herbs to find the horse or pony that summed up the pleasure older horses give to their owners.
Tony Botts, of Anchor Road, in Calne, sent the company a picture of his horse, 27-year-old Mike, full name Garth Te-Ruapahra, and a letter describing his personality and what the horse means to him. The company was charmed by Mike, described by Mr Botts as 'a special chap,' and awarded him the title of golden veteran for 2003.
A spokesman for Hilton Herbs said: "Mike's a grand sort of horse, not only from the personal relationship between him and Tony, but he's also a stunning looking horse."
In his letter Mr Botts told the company Mike liked eventing and hunting, but he was a particularly good show jumper.
