TOWN crier's wife Anne Johnson is recovering after a fall in Marlborough High Street left her with facial injuries and bruised ribs.
Mrs Johnson had accompanied her husband Alfie at an official event in the town hall when she tripped and fell close to the nearby zebra crossing.
Dr Richard Hook, a Marlborough GP, was passing and stopped to help until an ambulance arrived.
Mrs Johnson, of London Road, was taken by ambulance to the Great Western Hospital where she was told she had a suspected broken nose. She was allowed home after being treated in the accident and emergency unit.
Mr Johnson, 72, said they believed she stumbled rather than tripped as there were no raised or cracked paving slabs in the area where she fell.
Several people are believed to be currently litigating against Wiltshire Highways Authority after falling on raised pavements in the town centre.
Mr Johnson said he and his wife were indebted to the people who went to her aid, including Dr Hook and a number of passers-by.
He said: "It reaffirmed our belief that there are a lot of good people about."
