Danny Grewcock was given a World Cup vote of confidence by England boss Clive Woodward after being grounded for the summer tour to New Zealand and Australia.
While England tackle the All Blacks and Wallabies next month, Grewcock will be at home, reflecting on his latest brush with rugby authority.
Woodward and Grewcock have "mutually agreed" that he should not join England's trip Down Under. His place in the 37-man squad has gone to Leeds lock Tom Palmer.
But the Bath captain will link up with England's World Cup hopefuls when they reconvene in late July, ahead of tournament warm-up Tests against France (twice) and Wales.
"Danny and I have spoken at length about the possibility of him touring next month," said Woodward.
"We have mutually agreed that it's in our best interests that he stays in England for the duration of the tour. However, Danny will be joining the squad when it reconvenes in late July, and he remains an important part of our plans as we prepare for the Rugby World Cup."
