POLICE say they are no closer to tracing an alleyway attacker who subjected a 20-year-old woman to a terrifying assault.
The baby-faced attacker, who may have been caught on a CCTV camera running from the scene, grabbed the woman as she took a shortcut home through the alleyway opposite Buds Bar in Station Hill, Chippenham, at 2.20am on Sunday May 18.
The victim, who lives in the town, was grabbed from behind, but managed to fight off her attacker, who ran back out of the alleyway and into Station Hill.
The woman managed to call police on her mobile phone and later gave a detailed description of her assailant.
Det Cons Iain Lansdown, of Chippenham Police, who is leading the hunt for the attacker, said that although information had been received following the attack, they were still unable to locate the suspect.
He also revealed that CCTV footage, obtained from a camera in New Road, shows a man, fitting the suspect's description, running towards Malmesbury Road at around 2.20am.
The suspect is described as white, aged around 19, medium build and with short dark, brown hair and a gelled fringe.
He was between 5ft 11 and 6ft, clean shaven, with a baby face and had a local accent with a slightly high-pitched voice.
He was believed to be wearing a white shirt with a collar, which was decorated with a large checked pattern, possibly with grey and blue lines in the checks.
This was accompanied by light blue, slightly baggy jeans and smart trainers. He may have been wearing a gold necklace.
Anyone who can help is asked to contact Chippenham Police on (01249) 654455.
