YOUNG journalists from all over Wiltshire will meet at the Interactive Media Centre offices at Corsham Media Park today.

The youngsters, aged 14 to 19, are taking part in a regional journalist selection day, where would-be magazine journalists will use the centre's facilities to produce a dummy layout for a new publication called db8.

Companies based at the Media Park will be giving up their time during the day to be interviewed and take part in this new venture.

Spokesman Roz Golding said: "A recruitment campaign for enthusiastic contributors and potential board members was launched earlier this year and flyers were sent out to schools, youth centres and other areas where young people might pick them up.

"Those interested were asked to attend one of four set meetings or to register their interest online at www.db8.org.uk."

A total of 20 budding youngsters were chosen from the hundreds of applications received to be part of the editorial team of a magazine, produced by and for young people in the county of Wiltshire.

Mrs Golding said: "This exciting new project will give young people across the county the chance to put their ideas into print."

Wiltshire County Council devised the initiative which will allow the group of teenagers to work with professional journalists and designers to produce a glossy magazine for their age group.

From the chosen group, fifteen youngsters will be selected and asked to put themselves forward for the top jobs on the editorial board which will form a small team responsible for compiling suitable copy for the magazine.

It is hoped the publication will be printed quarterly, starting this autumn.
