HEADTEACHER Beverley Martin together with her staff and governors at Upavon School are celebrating receiving the second feather in the cap in almost as many weeks.

The Gazette has already reported on the phenomenal progress the village school in Upavon has made since Mrs Martin took over in April last year, which was officially recognised in an Ofsted report at the beginning of May.

Now the 84-pupil primary school is celebrating the receipt of an Investors In People award.

Mrs Martin has modestly said the award reflects a team effort by the staff and governors although her administration is singled out for praise. The official citation said: "The school has by all accounts changed so dramatically in the last 12 months that no one factor can be attributed.

"The development of a largely new team since September 2002 has had an impact, however, in bringing the team together with bonding days and team working."

Mrs Martin was chosen by Wiltshire Education Authority to revitalise Upavon School after it had gone through a bad patch. She previously taught at a much bigger school in Melksham.

The school is now regarded as one of the best in the county.
