A PRIMARY school is preparing to take its pupils back in time as it celebrates its 150th anniversary.

A week of historical activities will be held to celebrate the landmark at St Lawrence School in Lechlade next week. The school was built on its site in Wharf Lane in 1823 and now has 220 pupils on the roll.

Pupils at the school have been busy preparing displays, many with a Victorian flavour. They include a painting of the school in the style of LS Lowry, created by pupils and featuring themselves.

Famous characters from the age, such as Dr Livingstone and Queen Victoria, have been painted and will also be mounted on display.

The entire school will dress up in Victorian costume on Wednesday and Thursday, with a magic lantern show featuring Victorian slides and projecting lanterns on Wednesday. On Thursday, Cheltenham Museum staff will be at the school with a collection of Victorian artefacts.

Everyone will receive a commemorative mug at the end of the week.
