A homeless scout group exiled when violent storms damaged its headquarters has returned home.
A large section of felt roofing was torn from the 10th Chippenham Scout Group's Hut, in Westmead Lane, and rainwater flooded into the unprotected hut in the storms. But the group could not find any builders to carry out the repairs and they were forced to meet in scattered locations across the town.
But thanks to publicity the Winkle Club stepped into the breach and repaired and refurbished the building. Now the 120 boys in the group are together again and busy settling into their new home.
During its enforced exile, which ended this month, the group had to hire church halls and community centres across Chippenham for its Beaver Colony, two cub packs and scout troop.
Scout leaders feared if the individual packs continued to meet away from their home the group identity would disintegrate.
