SEVERAL years ago I became co-ordinator for a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme which included about a dozen households in Burden Close.
I used to receive from the Wiltshire Constabulary a quarterly bulletin which gave crime statistics for the various areas of Swindon together with other relevant information which I then circulated to other members of the scheme.
It all worked very satisfactorily and in addition I used to receive visits from the bobby on the beat and some phone calls from Swindon Police headquarters giving or asking me for various information.
Alas for over two years now I have received nothing at all and on making enquiries from other scheme co-ordinators I find that the same has happened to them.
I wonder if the Neigh-bourhood Watch Scheme has become defunct and has ceased to exist due to financial restraints as appears to have happened to many other activities which once we expected the police to perform.
Perhaps somebody could advise us.
