SWINDON FESTIVAL SEASON: The annual Think Art festival is once again under way. Running through the whole of June it will see a series of talks, debates, workshops and exhibitions. The action is centred around the Brunel Centre but there will be events popping up all over the town.
PUPILS have been studying the work of great artists to learn how to express their feelings.
A group of nine students at Hreod Parkway School in Moredon spent four days working with community artists No Added Sugar as part of the Think Art festival.
Now their work is on display in the windows of The Atrium, a vacant office building in Princes Street.
The pupils, who have experienced difficulties such as poor attendance, all studied well-known artists such as Turner and Joan Miro to learn how colours can reflect emotions in paintings.
They then put their skills into practice by creating a landscape scene on a larger than normal four foot square canvas.
Georgia Simpson, 14, from Greenmeadow, said: "I did a landscape scene based on Turner. It was a happy scene because I felt really happy on the day I did it it was my birthday. I enjoyed the project, I liked finding out about how to use colours and textures to communicate feelings.
"I did not know I was any good at painting before this, so I might have discovered a hidden talent."
