SELF-harm group SPEAR has received a welcome boost to funds.

SPEAR, Self Preservation Encouraging Active Response, has been given £6,000 from the Lloyds TSB Foundation.

The money will help pay the rent of the charity's new offices in Milton Road. Currently based in the Pembroke Centre, Cheney Manor, the charity plans to move in July.

SPEAR supports people who self harm and suffer from stress-related illnesses.

Sue Ozolins, SPEAR develop-ment director, said: "This funding is fantastic news. We really need to move into a bigger office for group work, training and more privacy."

Last December SPEAR was set to vacate its office because the charity could not afford to pay the rent. But thanks to donations from companies, such as The Oxford Swindon & Gloucester Co-Op and Lloyds TSB, the charity is now back on its feet.

Miss Ozolins claims the need for SPEAR services is rapidly increasing.

She is currently training three members of staff to meet the demand.

She said: "The response has been overwhelming. More and more people are coming to us because self harm affects so many people. Unfortunately we will have to reduce our services before the move next month."
